How it started

1905

Rotary Established

Rotary started with the vision of one man — Paul Harris. The Chicago attorney formed the Rotary Club of Chicago on 23 February 1905, so professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships.

Began the fight against polio in 1979 with a project to immunize 6 million children in the Philippines. Today, polio remains endemic in only two countries — down from 125 in 1988.

1922

Rotary Club of Uvalde Established

The club was created in Uvalde.

1950

Mottos Approved

At the 1950 Rotary International Convention in Detroit, Michigan, USA, two slogans were formally approved as the official mottoes of Rotary: He Profits Most Who Serves Best and Service Above Self.

2006

World War I Monument

On Veteran's Day, November 11, 2006, as part of the Uvalde Sesquicentennial celebration, a new and more accessible monument was dedicated at the Memorial Park. Funds for the new monument were raised by the Uvalde Rotary Club and Wal-Mart.

2022

100 Year Anniversary

The Club celebrated 100 years of “service above self” with a day full of music and fun at the Rotary Amphitheater and a dance in the night in the Ssgt. Willie de Leon Civic Center.  For 12 months, Rotary gave a 100 of items each month to various organization around the community.
